Year 2 - Spring Term

A Super Start to the Big Question...

Where oh where in the world are we?

Trip to Brighton

We started the new year with a geography trip to Brighton city centre. We used our mapping skills to locate landmarks and find our way around Brighton and we used compass points to track the direction of our travel. We were dazzled by the magnificent architecture, the opulent interiors and fascinating stories of the Royal Pavilion that helped us to understand how our city has developed over the last two to three hundred years.

Research

In Computing we have been researching different local attractions in Brighton. We used the link below to find out facts and information about many different places including the Volks Railway, the I360, Churchill Square, Brighton Zipwire and Brighton Palace pier. We worked collaboratively to create a presentation to share what we found out.

DT

We have been designing and creating our own moving boxes using a range of mechanisms including levers, winders, springs and sliders.

How to make an apple bird feeder!

In Literacy this week we have been following and writing our own bird feeder instructions.

During our Inset day today Miss Craner was able to capture footage of the birds in action...

Fabulous Finish

Over the past few weeks we have been comparing Brighton, England to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. We have also been learning about the layers of the Amazon Rainforest and the different animals that have chosen it for their habitat.

To celebrate the end of our big question we had a school visit from Reptylers. It was a brilliant experience to handle and find out interesting facts about these scaly cold blooded creatures!
